Separating waste. What works and what doesn't for you?

The municipalities of Gorinchem, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Molenlanden, and Vijfheerenlanden are collaborating with Waardlanden on the preparation of a new waste plan.

To achieve this, we want to better understand what helps residents in their daily practice: what goes well and what do residents find difficult when separating and disposing of waste?

Repair Circulair: repairers take on the challenge

  • Date: 21-03-2026
  • Time of: 10.00
  • Time until: 16.00
  • Intro text: Repairers from Repair Cafés are taking on the challenge of repairing items from the recycling center after all. They will do so during Repair Circulair on March 21 at the Gelderlandfabriek in Culemborg. After all, much of what we throw away can still be repaired.
  • Local authority: Five lord countries
  • Street and house number: The Gelderland Factory
  • City: Culemborg

From Thursday, March 19 to Friday, March 27, it is Circular Economy Week. Repairers from the Repair Cafés in Beusichem, Culemborg, Geldermalsen (Coöperatie Duurzaam West-Betuwe), and Leerdam-Noord are taking on the challenge of repairing items from the recycling center after all. They will do so during Repair Circulair on March 21 at the Gelderlandfabriek in Culemborg, to show that much of what we throw away can still be repaired!

No Repair Café

You cannot bring your own items this time. The repairers collect discarded items by taking them over for repair before customers drop them off at the recycling centers. During Repair Circulair, they will repair these items at the Gelderlandfabriek in Culemborg. Anything that cannot be repaired goes back to the recycling center. The items that are repaired go to charities in the region.

Repair more

'Throwing away? Not a chance!' is the mission of Repair Café International. Several Repair Cafés are active in our region, and there are already more than 3800 worldwide. All repairers are volunteers and are committed to giving your broken items and appliances a second life. If you don't have to buy something new, it saves money, production, and materials. And that is good for your wallet and for the world.

More information can be found at: Repair Circulair - March 21, 2026

  • Local authority: Five lord countries

From March 19 to 27, repairing takes center stage during the national campaign *Heel Nederland Repareert* (All of the Netherlands Repairs). During this week, attention is drawn nationwide to repairing as a sustainable and smart alternative to throwing things away. After all, many items we normally discard are still perfectly repairable. By repairing, we save raw materials, reduce waste, and often save costs as well.

There are also activities within the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden that residents can participate in. For example, there is a film night about Repair Cafés in Helsdingen in Vianen, a Visual Mending workshop where you learn how to creatively repair clothing, and a pop-up Repair Café where broken items can be repaired.

Will we see you there?
