Waardlanden and the municipality of Gorinchem are taking an important step towards a more sustainable and cleaner Gorinchem. The individual collection of paper and cardboard in the city center will be discontinued. Starting April 11, 2025, residents can dispose of paper and cardboard in collection containers free of charge and without needing their recycling pass at 15 locations in the city center. On Friday, April 11, 2025, paper and cardboard will be collected individually in the city center for the last time.
What does this mean for you as an entrepreneur?
As a business owner, you have a contract for the collection of your business waste, including waste paper and cardboard. This will remain unchanged. However, we see many businesses placing their paper and cardboard loose on the curb on collection days. This will no longer be permitted after April 11, 2025, as the loose collection of paper and cardboard in the city center will cease.
What is possible and allowed?
You can have paper and cardboard disposed of through your existing business waste contract. If you need to dispose of it before the collection day, you can use the collection containers in the city center. Please adhere to the following guidelines:
- Make cardboard small
Fold or cut cardboard into small pieces before placing it in the container. This prevents blockages and keeps the containers from filling up too quickly.
- Do not place anything next to the collection container
All paper and cardboard must fit in the container, and the lid must be closed after use. This prevents paper and cardboard from getting wet or blowing away.
- Only throw dry and clean paper and cardboard into the collection container
Wet or soiled paper cannot be recycled and belongs in the residual waste.
Why this change?
Thanks to this adjustment, you can dispose of paper and cardboard at any time of day. It prevents paper and cardboard from getting wet or blowing around the neighborhood as litter. Moreover, using containers is better for the environment: clean, dry paper can be recycled up to seven times. This way, we can work together for a cleaner city!

Currently, there are paper recycling bins in Boerenstraat, Groenmarkt, Heerenlaantje, Nonnenveld, Struisvogelstraat, Rond de Watertoren, and at Varkenmarkt. Starting April 11, 2025, paper and cardboard recycling bins will be available at 15 locations in the city center. Below is a map showing these locations.
