Glass is a material used in many different ways in our daily lives, from drinking glasses to packaging and decorative items. But did you know that not all glass belongs in the same place when it comes to recycling? Here's a handy overview to help you know where the different types of glass belong for proper recycling.
Tea glass, glass vase or oven dish
While it may be surprising, tea glasses, glass vases, and oven dishes do not belong in the regular glass recycling bin. These types of glass are not packaging and may have a different composition that disrupts glass recycling. If they are still in good condition, it's best to donate them or take them to a recycling center for reuse.

Glass from picture frames doesn't belong in regular glass containers. You can take it to your local recycling center for free for recycling. This way, the glass is processed and reused correctly.
Beer bottle
Beer bottles are a common form of glass waste. If they have a deposit, you can easily return them to the supermarket for cleaning and reuse. Beer bottles without a deposit should simply be placed in the bottle bank for recycling.
Mirror
Broken or old mirrors can't simply be disposed of with regular glass waste. Instead, take them to the recycling center for free for proper disposal. This way, they can be recycled responsibly.
Wine bottle or jam jar
All clear glass containers, such as wine bottles and jam jars, belong in the bottle bank for recycling. Make sure the container is empty before throwing it away. Lids and caps can remain on.
Flat glass
Car windows, window glass, and other flat glass are not suitable for regular glass recycling. You can take this type of glass to the recycling center free of charge, where special containers are available for flat glass recycling.
So, every type of glass has its own place for recycling. By being aware of where each piece of glass belongs, we can all contribute to a waste-free and greener future.
