Every Christmas tree without a wooden cross, pot, nails, or decorations will once again raise money for residents of the municipalities of Gorinchem, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Molenlanden, and Vijfheerenlanden this year. You can drop off your Christmas tree at neighborhood collection points, recycling centers, or the Kringloopplein (Recycling Center). This way, we're working together to keep our neighborhoods clean and give trees a second life.

The Christmas tree collection has become a tradition. Children, in particular, look forward to it every year. They set off into the neighborhood with their bicycles, carts, or trailers to collect as many trees as possible.

Call for children

Get outside with your brothers, sisters, and friends. Collect trees during the Christmas holidays and see who in your neighborhood still has one. Make arrangements with your neighbors to pick them up during or after the holidays. This way, everyone knows when the tree is being removed and the neighborhood stays tidy. It's fun, you get outside, and you earn some extra money.
It also helps keep the streets clean and tidy. Donated trees are shredded. Processors then convert this material into soil improvers and ground cover. This way, Christmas trees are transformed into a valuable resource. So participating is not only good for your wallet, but also for the environment.

Christmas tree collection locations

The digital map below shows all the Christmas tree collection locations. Click on the red Christmas trees, zoom in, and quickly see where, when, and at what time you can drop off Christmas trees in your area for a 50-cent fee.

Make agreements together

Make arrangements with neighbors, family, or children in the neighborhood. Decide who will take the tree out and when. This prevents trees from being taken out too early or too late, and keeps the neighborhood tidy.

Christmas trees are not waste

Don't throw your Christmas tree in the organic waste bin. The resin from a Christmas tree isn't compostable. And don't set fire to Christmas trees. Burning releases harmful substances into the air. This is not only bad for the environment but can also cause health problems for humans. Collected trees are shredded. This reduces harmful emissions and gives the trees a "second life." After the trees are shredded, processors convert this material into soil improvers and ground cover. Your discarded Christmas tree isn't waste, but a valuable resource.

Do you have a Christmas tree with a root ball? You can plant it in your garden after the holidays and reuse it next year. Don't have a garden, don't have space in your garden, or would you rather not have a Christmas tree after the holidays? Always take your Christmas tree to a collection point, the recycling center, or the Kringloopplein (Recycling Center).

Rules and points of interest

  • The collection is for residents only. Businesses are excluded from participation.
  • Please return your Christmas tree without decorations, pot, nails or wooden cross
  • Do not place anything near the collection containers, otherwise we will not be able to empty them.
  • A Christmas tree should not be placed in the vegetable, fruit, and garden waste (GFT) container. Resin is not compostable.
  • For orders of 50 or more Christmas trees, payment is made by bank transfer.

You don't have to wait for your neighborhood's collection day. Between December 27th and January 10th, you can drop off your tree at the recycling center or the Kringloopplein whenever it suits you. You can borrow a trailer from Waardlanden for free. You can use the trailer for a maximum of two hours. This makes cleanup and transport to the recycling center much easier.
You can also make an appointment with someone in your area who can take your tree away.

Yes, that's allowed. Many residents—especially children—collect trees in their neighborhood. Make agreements together about who will collect trees and when they'll be returned. This prevents litter on the streets.

Don't put your tree outside early. Take it to a collection point on collection day. Can't make it to the collection point yourself? Then take your tree to the recycling center or the Kringloopplein (Recycling Center), or make an appointment with someone in your neighborhood who can take it for you.
This way we prevent trees from being left on the street and we keep the neighborhood neat and tidy together.

They are processed into valuable raw materials such as compost, green gas, and ground cover. Some of the bedding goes to a nearby farm and is used as a nice, warm bed for the cows. And when the cow manure is added, it composts together. This compost can then be spread back onto the land. So, discarded Christmas trees are not waste, but a valuable resource.
