Registration of residual waste
We track how often residual waste is collected. We do this in two ways:
- Do you use a residual waste collection container? We'll record how often you open this container with your environmental pass.
- Do you live in a rural area and have a residual waste container at home? Then we'll scan the chip in your container when it's emptied.
Insight into registered offers
You will receive a notification from your municipality around February with information about the waste collection tax. Your 2026 tax assessment will show how often you disposed of residual waste in 2025.
If you think this number is incorrect, please contact your municipality's tax authority:

Recycling rate for residual waste

The municipalities of Gorinchem, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, and Molenlanden operate a waste collection levy consisting of two components: a fixed component and a variable component, the recycling rate. The recycling rate depends on how often residual waste is collected. Those who separate waste properly and collect only a small amount of residual waste pay less for this component.
Your municipality takes into account various situations, such as households with a lot of medical waste, litter pickers and people with insufficient income.
The municipality of Vijfheerenlanden does not currently work with a recycling rate and will make a decision on the introduction of the recycling rate later.
Why municipalities work with a recycling rate
Residual waste still contains many raw materials that can be reused, such as plastic, food scraps, paper, and textiles. By separating waste more effectively, valuable raw materials are preserved, less waste needs to be incinerated, and we save energy and raw materials. The recycling rate helps with this.
How the recycling rate works
Every household pays waste collection tax to the municipality. The fixed portion is the same for everyone in your municipality. You pay this at the beginning of the year, along with your municipal taxes. At the end of the year, the municipality determines the variable portion. You pay this variable portion afterwards. The amount depends on how often you have your residual waste container emptied or disposed of residual waste in the residual waste container. We read this number using a chip on your residual waste container or the number of times you opened the residual waste container with your environmental pass.
Rate for bulky waste
You can take bulky waste to our recycling centers of have it picked up at your homeResidents of Gorinchem, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, and Molenlanden are subject to a fee. The municipalities introduced this fee to manage waste processing costs and distribute them more fairly. It ensures that the "polluter pays," and every resident pays for their own bulky waste.
