Do you want to get rid of your old bike, but it's too good for scrap? With the "A Second Life for Used Bikes" project, your discarded bike gets a second life.
Take your bike to the recycling center
You can take your old bicycle to for free with your environmental pass. the recycling center of thrift store drop it off. Is it an electric bicycle? Remove the battery and hand it in at the hazardous waste collection point. Hand in the charger at the electronic waste collection point. Do you still have the keys? Leave them in the lock.
Makeover
SitY Academy, the Monnikenhof Residents' Association, De Gezel, and Opnieuw & Co Leerdam repair discarded bicycles so they are usable again and meet legal requirements. They then ensure the bicycles reach the right people: people on a tight budget who can't afford a new bike.
Work for people in vulnerable positions
All workshops employ people with vulnerable positions in the labor market who work as bicycle mechanics. They work in a safe environment, developing into skilled craftsmen under the guidance of a mentor.
Successful collaboration
The cycling project is a collaboration between SitY Academy, Residents' organization Monnikenhof, The Companion, municipality of Vijfheerenlanden, Again & Co Leerdam and Waardlanden. Since its launch in July 2021, the partners have made a major effort to make the "A second life for used bicycles" project a success.
