Residents of the municipalities of Gorinchem, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Molenlanden and Vijfheerenlanden can earn a nice pocket money again this year by bringing Christmas trees to central collection points in their neighbourhood or using their environmental pass to one of Waardlanden's environmental centres. Each real Christmas tree without a wooden cross, pot, nails and decoration earns 50 cents.
Together with residents and contractors, we will also take care of Christmas tree collection in the municipalities of Gorinchem, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Molenlanden and Vijfheerenlanden this year. Residents receive a payment of 50 cents for each Christmas tree they hand in. From 50 Christmas trees onwards, payment is made by bank transfer. A reward especially appeals to our youngest residents. They save a nice penny by collecting as many Christmas trees as possible. Together, we keep the neighbourhood clean and give Christmas trees a "second life". That is better for the environment and your wallet. Companies are excluded from participation.
Please do not put Christmas trees between or next to the mini containers during collection days. Then our driver will have enough space to empty the containers. Other presentation rules and tips can be found at the bottom of this message. Thank you for your cooperation!

Handing in Christmas trees at environmental centres with environmental pass
Residents who want to get rid of their Christmas tree sooner or enjoy it longer can bring it to the environmental centres Waardlanden,or at the Kringlooplein Nieuw-Lekkerland. From December 27 to January 13, residents there will also receive a fee of 50 cents per tree. Trees handed in before or after this period are not eligible for compensation. Without your environmental pass, you will not be able to visit Waardlanden's environmental centres after 1 December 2023. So take it with you when you go to hand in Christmas trees at the environmental street. To take your Christmas tree to the environmentalraat, you can use a Waardlanden trailer free of charge.

Christmas trees are not waste
Old Christmas trees should not be put with the vegetable, fruit and garden (GFT) waste. The resin from the tree interferes with composting. Christmas trees handed in are not burned, but shredded. This gives the trees a "second life" and reduces CO2 emissions caused by burning. After the Christmas trees are shredded, processors turn them into soil improvers and ground cover.
Would you please pay attention to the following when offering Christmas trees?
- The collection campaign targets residents only. Companies are excluded from participating
- Offer your Christmas tree without decoration, pot, nails or wooden cross
- In connection with waste collection, we ask you not to place Christmas trees between or next to containers. Then our driver will have enough space to empty the containers.
- Also, do not put Christmas trees by the underground containers as we will not be able to empty them.
- A Christmas tree may not in fruit, vegetable and garden waste container (VGF). Resin is not compostable.
- From 50 Christmas trees onwards, payment is by bank transfer.
