By bulky waste we mean bulky household waste that is too big or too heavy for the residual waste container and that you can no longer have repaired, sell, give away or take to the recycling shop. Such as a worn out sofa, a broken chair and discarded table.

Since 1 January 2024, the municipalities of Gorinchem, Hardinxveld-Giessendam and Molenlanden have introduced tariffs for the collection and delivery service of bulky household waste. The introduction of fees for the collection and delivery service of bulky household waste does not apply to residents of Vijfheerenlanden. This municipality will decide later on the introduction of tariffs.

A charge for bulky household waste proves to be very good for reducing the amount of bulky waste to be incinerated.

Bulky waste that residents have collected from their homes is residual waste and is incinerated. A pity, because bulky household waste contains many valuable materials that can be reused. With a fee on this bulky waste collection service, the municipalities encourage residents to sort their bulky household waste, disassemble it at home and deliver it separately to the environmental centre. Less then needs to be incinerated and more raw materials can be recycled. This is how we ensure more circular and sustainable waste management in the region.

The tariffs also reduce business waste at the waste recycling centres. The tariffs remove the financial advantage for contractors and landscapers to dispose of their commercial waste for free. Companies have to take care and pay for the disposal of their commercial waste themselves. It is never intended that residents should pay for the disposal of commercial waste.
Many residents have a contractor do their remodelling or garden renovation. The contractor then makes sure the waste is disposed of. The customer pays for this. If a resident does the work himself and takes the waste to the waste disposal site, the cost is not borne by him but by all residents. And that is not fair.

With the environment pass, you can visit our waste recycling centres as often as you like. However, the municipalities of Gorinchem, Hardinxveld-Giessendam and Molenlanden have introduced tariffs for a small number of types of waste and raw materials since 1 January 2024. These tariffs are set annually. Per household, you can use the environment pass to bring one or more of these raw materials to the environmental street 3 times a year without having to pay separately. Per household, you can bring one or more of these raw materials to the environmental street 3 times a year using the environmental pass without paying separately for it. You do not have to pay separately for most commodities. You can bring these commodities as often as you like.
Only a small number of types of waste and raw materials are subject to fees. Per household, you can take one or more of these types of waste and raw materials to the environmental street 3 times a year using the environmental card without paying separately for it. You pay in advance with iDeal for each time you have your bulky waste collected from your home. You can have a maximum of 1 cubic metre (1 m3) collected per appointment. You pay €40.00 per cubic metre (1 m3). Make your bulky waste appointment.

If you make a collection appointment, we will collect your bulky household waste from your home within 10 working days. Previously, the waiting time could be as long as 2 months. This long waiting time was a problem for many small-housed residents.
