Back to overview

Waardlanden's annual Christmas tree collection will start soon. You can hand in your tree at collection points in the neighbourhood, at the environmental centres or the Kringloopplein. Each real Christmas tree - without wooden cross, pot, nails or decoration - yields €0.50. Delivered trees will be chipped and processed into soil improvers and ground covers. This turns Christmas trees into a valuable resource.

Drop off in the neighbourhood

Neighbourhood collection takes place on different days for each municipality:

  • Gorinchem: Saturday 10 January
  • Hardinxveld-Giessendam: Saturday 3 and 10 January
  • Molenlanden: Saturday 3 and 10 January
  • Vijfheerenlanden: Wednesday 7 January

Make arrangements together

Make arrangements with neighbours, relatives or children in the neighbourhood. Agree who will hand in the tree and when. This will prevent trees from being left outside too early or too late and keep the neighbourhood tidy.

Return to environmental centres with environmental card

Those wishing to get rid of the tree sooner or later can contact the environmental centres or the Kringloopplein in Nieuw-Lekkerland. Access is only possible with the environmental pass. A fee of €0.50 per tree also applies here from 27 December to 10 January.

Fun, sustainable and good for the neighbourhood

The Christmas tree collection is now a firm tradition. Children in particular look forward to it every year. With a bicycle, wagon or trailer, they go into the neighbourhood to collect as many trees as possible. Nelleke Gouw, environmental coach at Waardlanden, urges children to join the collection again this year and to make plans in advance: "Go outside with your brothers, sisters and friends. Collect trees and see who in the neighbourhood still has a tree. Make arrangements with neighbours to collect them during or after the holidays. This way, everyone knows when the tree will be removed and the neighbourhood stays tidy. It is fun, you are outside and you earn some money.

The collection campaign is for residents only. Companies are excluded from participating.

Frequently asked questions and answers about Christmas tree collection

You don't have to wait until the collection day in your neighbourhood. Between 27 December and 10 January you can hand in your tree at the waste disposal site or Kringloopplein, whenever it suits you. You can borrow a free trailer from Waardlanden for this purpose. You may use the trailer for a maximum of two hours. This makes cleaning up and delivering to the recycling centre much easier.
You can also make an appointment with someone near you who can take your tree.

Yes, you can. Many residents - and especially children - collect trees in the neighbourhood. Agree together on who collects trees and when they are handed in. This avoids littering the streets.

Do not put your tree outside before. Bring your tree to a collection point on collection day. Can't go to the collection point yourself? Then hand in your tree at the environmental centre or Kringloopplein, or make an appointment with someone nearby who can take your tree for you.
This way, we prevent trees from being left on the street and together keep the neighbourhood neat and tidy.

They are processed into valuable raw materials such as compost, green gas and ground cover. Some of the bedding goes to a nearby farm and is used there as a nice warm bed for the cows. And when the cow manure is added, it composts together. Then that compost can be spread on the land again. Thus, discarded Christmas trees are not waste, but a valuable resource.
