Back to overview

In June, we postponed the introduction of the environment pass in Vijfheerenlanden municipality to the autumn. In recent months, we have worked carefully on preparations. What will change for you depends on your living situation. Changes can sometimes be difficult. We understand that. That is why we are implementing the changes step by step.

Do you live in the built-up area of Vijfheerenlanden municipality? If so, we will send you a letter this month explaining why and when we are making the changes.

Environmental pass per household

On 16 October 2023, we will send residents of Ameide, Hei en Boeicop, Kedichem, Leerbroek, Leerdam, Lexmond, Meerkerk, Nieuwland, Oosterwijk, Schoonrewoerd and Tienhoven aan de Lek the environmental pass with an explanation of how to use the pass. From 23 October, the collection containers for residual waste will be closed in these places. The containers can then be opened with the environmental pass. An important change with which we also combat waste tourism.

On 30 October 2023, we will send residents of Everdingen, Hagestein, Hoef en Haag, Vianen and Zijderveld the environmental pass with an explanation on how to use the pass. In these places, the collection containers for residual waste will be closed from 6 November.
Offering waste and raw materials separately: what will change?
To process waste as raw material, it is important that you sort your waste at home as much as possible and offer it separately. How you do that with the introduction of the environmental card depends on your living situation.

Low-rise

If you live in a low-rise house in the built-up area of Vijfheerenlanden municipality, you have 3 types of containers at your property:

  • You can dispose of paper and cardboard in the (blue) container for paper. Make cardboard small, so more can fit in the container.
  • Throw your plastic packaging, metal packaging and drink cartons (pmd) in the (orange) container. Make sure the packaging is as empty as possible. There is no need to rinse them. The pmd collection containers in your hometown will disappear.
  • For vegetable, fruit and garden waste and food waste (VGF), use the (green) VGF container. Do you want to use bags? Then use compostable bags with the seedling logo, only these bags can be disposed of with VGF waste, or choose unprinted paper bags.

Following the introduction of the environmental pass, there are some changes:

  • You dispose of your rubbish bag with residual waste in the collection container for residual waste in your neighbourhood. Soon, you will only be able to open it with your environmental pass. You do not have to pay separately for this.
  • From 1 December 2023, you will need the environmental pass to access all our environmental centres. You will not have to pay separately for this.

High-rise and low-rise buildings without commodity containers

If you live in a flat, upper flat or low-rise house without your own containers* lives, you bring your separated waste to collection containers in your neighbourhood. After the introduction of the environmental card, there are some changes:

  • You can use the new collection container for vegetable, fruit and garden waste and food waste (VGF). You will soon be able to open this using your environmental pass. Do you want to use bags? Use compostable bags with the seedling logo, only these bags can be used for VGF waste, or choose unprinted paper bags.
  • You can dispose of paper and cardboard in the paper collection container. Make cardboard small to avoid clogging the container.
  • Soon you will only be able to open the collection container for residual waste with your environmental pass. You do not have to pay separately for this. You can dispose of your plastic packaging, metal packaging and drink cartons (pmd) together with your residual waste. This waste will be collected separately and later sorted by machines. The pmd collection containers will disappear.
  • From 1 December 2023, you will need the environmental pass to access all our environmental centres. You will not have to pay separately for this.

*Low-rise houses without their own containers are for example in the centre of Leerdam and Vianen.

Residents outside area get environmental pass during 2023

If you live in outlying areas or on the outskirts of the municipality, you will have received a new residual waste container at their home in autumn 2022. In November 2023, we will send you an environmental pass. From 1 December, you will need the pass to access all our environmental centres. You do not have to pay separately for this. The environmental pass does not allow you to open the residual waste collection containers.
