Respondents experience the most obstacles in separating vegetable, fruit and garden waste and food waste (VGF), due to perceived odour and pests. When separating plastic packaging, metal and drink cartons (pmd), people often indicate that the separation rules are unclear.
In particular, residents mention combating waste dumping as an important issue for the new policy to be developed. Other suggestions made include stimulating waste prevention and waste separation. Also mentioned are, for instance, providing good explanations as to why which costs are incurred and about source-separation versus post-separation.
The survey results are helpful in understanding residents' wishes, motives and perceptions of waste and raw materials collection. The survey is part of the preparations for the development of new policies aimed at more and better separation of reusable waste (raw materials) and reducing the amount of residual waste. Involving residents is an important aspect of the development process.
